Worship of PM Modi in Lumbini on Buddha Purnima, first Nepal visit after border dispute in 2020

PM Nepal Visit On Buddha Purnima: PM Narendra Modi has reached Nepal. Where he met with Nepalese PM Sher Bahadur Deuba and offered prayers at the Mahamaya temple. PM Modi wrote on his Twitter account, “Arrival in Nepal on the special occasion of Buddha Purnima, happy to be among the wonderful people here on this occasion and looking forward to the programs in Lumbini.” On the invitation of his counterpart Deuba, PM Modi is making a one-day visit to Lumbini on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.

This is the Prime Minister’s fifth visit to Nepal since 2014. PM Modi and his team arrived here from Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh in a special Indian Air Force helicopter. Located in the Terai plains of southern Nepal, Lumbini is one of the holiest places in Buddhism, as it is where Lord Buddha was born.

The visiting prime minister will also participate in the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the construction of a center for Buddhist culture and heritage within the Lumbini monastery area. According to a statement issued by Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “During the meeting, they will exchange views on Nepal-India cooperation and matters of mutual interest.” In a statement on Sunday, PM Modi had said that he looked forward to meeting Nepalese Prime Minister Deuba again during his visit to India last month.

During this visit, PM Modi held detailed discussions with his Nepalese counterpart Sher Bahadur Deuba on the issue of promoting bilateral cooperation in various fields including hydropower, development and connectivity. PM will also address the public meeting on Buddha Jayanti. It has been organized by the Lumbini Development Trust in collaboration with the Government of Nepal. The International Buddhist Culture and Heritage Center is being built with a global appeal by the International Buddhist Confederation based in India in collaboration with the Lumbini Development Trust. For this, the Ministry of Culture, Government of India will provide financial support.

The International Buddhist Confederation is a grant-making body under the Ministry of Culture. This Buddhist center will be the first zero carbon emission building in Nepal. According to a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry of Nepal, “During the meeting, the two leaders will exchange views on Nepal-India cooperation and issues of mutual interest.” Prime Minister Modi will return to Kushinagar at 4 pm after attending various programs in Lumbini on the occasion of Buddha Purnima. PM will go to Mahaparinirvana Stupa and do darshan and worship.
