Women’s football takes a giant step with the first professional league

The Board of Directors of Higher Sports Council (CSD) has unanimously approved this Monday the statutes that will allow the definitive start-up of the first women’s professional football league in Spainafter a meeting held with the presence of the president of the organization and representatives of all the parties involved.

The approval comes nearly a year after Irene Lozanothen Secretary of State for Sport and head of the CSD, announced on March 25, 2021 that the Council would promote the professionalization of national women’s football.

It was on June 15 when the CSD approved this professional league, starting a process that slowed down until this Monday, when the body’s Board of Directors unanimously approved those statutes that will govern the new entity for the women’s soccer league.
