The Atlético de Madrid defender Axel Witsel has assured that they are going to “fight game by game” to try to qualify for the next edition of the Champions League, in addition to stating that they are “strong and in good shape” to face next Monday’s LaLiga EA Sports match against the Villarreal at the Estadio de la Cerámica (9:00 p.m.).
“We want to do things well because Next year we want to play in the Champions League and we are going to fight until the end game by game,” the Belgian said in an interview with Atlético’s official media after being chosen by the red and white fans as the Five Star Player of the month of March, an award organized by Mahou.
Furthermore, the defender highlights the importance of this Monday’s match against Villarreal in view of that objective. “We have worked hard to be in good shape and fight until the end after the break. We are not where we want in LaLiga and the game against Villareal is going to be very important. We know that the last few games away from home have been difficult, but we need these three points,” he stressed.
On the other hand, Witsel values the Champions League quarter-final tie against one of his former teams, Borussia Dortmund. “I have friends in Dortmund like Marco Reus and it is going to be a very special match. We have the reference of the match against Inter, we want to fight until the end,” he indicated.
Finally, Witsel thanks the Colchoneros fans for choosing him as the best footballer of the month. “Many thanks to the fans for this award. In the end it is better to win collective trophies than individual ones, but I am very happy,” he concluded.
