Wearing face masks did not help much in preventing the spread of COVID-19: Study

Fox News According to, CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield said in September that face masks are the most powerful health weapon we have.

Then soon wearing face masks was made mandatory all over the world.

Now, after a review led by 12 researchers from renowned universities around the world, it has been said that the role of wearing masks in preventing the spread of Covid-19 may be minor or not at all.

The review, published by the Cochrane Library, looked at 78 controlled trials to test whether ‘physical prevention’ – ie wearing a face mask and washing hands – prevented or reduced the spread of coronavirus. Slate report According to the Cochrane Reviews, Cochrane reviews are considered the best standard of evidence-based medicine worldwide.

Researchers compared the roles of wearing masks and not wearing masks in preventing Covid-19. In this context, the authors of the review stated, “The wearing of masks by communities probably made little or no difference…”

The study also claimed that there was no clear difference between medical/surgical masks vs N95. The study found that “wearing an N95/P2 respirator probably made no or slight difference in how many people were diagnosed with flu … (five studies; 8407 people); and even made little or no difference It didn’t matter how many people got sick with a flu-like illness (five studies; 8407 people), or had a respiratory illness… (three studies; 7799 people)…”

According to Fox News, 78 studies looked at participants from countries of all income groups.

The authors of the study said, the researchers collected data during the H1N1 flu pandemic in 2009, the non-pandemic flu season, the pandemic flu season up to 2016, and the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to a Bloomberg report, the conclusion of the research is not certain. Some of the studies included in the review were done before Covid, when the spread of the virus was not as rapid. Many people did not even wear masks honestly. Other research has shown that masks can significantly reduce the spread of COVID, especially in indoor environments, making them an important tool.
