War in Ukraine: Russia bombs a market and leaves at least 16 dead

At least 16 people died this Wednesday in a Russian bombardment in a market in Kostantinovka, a city in eastern Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky said on social media.

“Artillery of Russian terrorists killed 16 people in the city of Kostantinovka, in the Donetsk region,” Zelensky said, reporting that the attack hit a market, shops and a pharmacy. “Unfortunately, the number of dead and wounded could increase,” he stressed.

“Anyone in the world still dealing with anything Russian is simply unaware of this reality. Egregious evil. Blatant evil. Total inhumanity,” he wrote.

He added: “My condolences to everyone who has lost a loved one. The Russian evil must be defeated as soon as possible.”

The missile attack left at least 16 dead, including a child, and some 20 wounded, Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said.

“All services are working,” he said, adding: “The fire is contained.”

Videos circulating on social media appear to show the moment of the explosion and its graphic consequences.
