War between the video game giants: Sony denounced a Microsoft maneuver to attack PlayStation

They ensure that the popular Call of Duty saga could become an Xbox exclusive.

The trade war between sony and microsoftmain players in the gaming industry worldwide, is still hot about the acquisition of the publisher Activision Blizzard. In this context, Sony -manufacturer of PlayStation– said “the real strategy” of the owner of Xbox is to significantly reduce its business model, such as the one Nintendo.

The confused accusation is based on the world of shooting games for over 18 years the presence of Nintendo is almost nilsince most of its titles revolve around the Super Mario, Legends of Zelda, Pokémon and many other franchises.

Sony’s main argument to prevent Microsoft from acquiring Activision Blizzard is strictly aimed at the video game franchise call of duty. The owner of PlayStation alleges a concern that Xbox could return to these exclusive video gamesleaving them without a large income.

Xbox, unsurprisingly, denied that the main objective of this acquisition is to deprive PlayStation 4 and 5 users of the shooting saga in the digital entertainment industry, which recently released the title Modern Warfare 2.

The comments were made in a response to the UK’s Competition and Markets Agency, which is currently investigating the acquisition before approving it.

In a 22-page official document, Sony Interactive Entertainment alleges that the purchase could push users to leave PlayStationsomething that Xbox would take advantage of to increase its prices and hurt independent developers accordingly.

In a commentary section, Sony highlights comments made by Microsoft that other platforms have grown up without Call of Duty, including the nintendoswitch. To this, PlayStation responded that Nintendo’s strategy is different from its own or Xbox’s, since it is not based on adult shooting games.

“Microsoft claims that Nintendo’s differentiated model shows that PlayStation does not need Call of Duty to compete. But this reveals its true strategy,” the statement specifically expresses and adds: “Microsoft wants PlayStation to become Nintendoin order to be a much smaller competitor against Xbox”.

The sale of Activision could “inflate” the prices of the games, according to Sony

One of the arguments that the Japanese company put forward to the UK regulatory body about Microsoft’s purchase of Activision Blizzard could “harm developers and lead to higher prices for video games, hardware and subscription services”, so he trusts that they try to block the acquisition because this could mean a “substantial decrease in competition.”

According to a recent statement, the company admitted that the subscription video game service xbox game pass exceeds playstation plusfrom Sony.

“Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) is confident that the second phase of the CMA investigation confirms that the transaction can substantially reduce competition and should be prohibited,” the Japanese company remarked in a recent statement.

According to Sony, Activision and Microsoft games account for 30-40% of all minutes played on consoles in the UK, meaning that if Microsoft exclusively controlled Activision content, gamers would professional gamers and indie developers would suffer.

“In the medium term, a significant number of PlayStation users would likely switch to Xbox and/or Game Pass. Faced with weaker competition, Microsoft could: Increase the prices of consoles and games for Xbox users (including to switch from PlayStation); to increase the price of Game Pass; and to reduce innovation and quality,” Sony argued.
