Iran executed several women after women-led protests over the death of Mahsa Amini in custody entered their third month on Wednesday. At least seven people lost their lives allegedly in two days in protest. However, this does not include the six people who were attacked by gunmen in the southwestern province of Khuzestan on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Iranian media said “rioters” (the term Iranian officials use to describe protesters) killed two members of the Revolutionary Guards and a member of the Basij paramilitary force on Tuesday. A guard was shot dead in Buchan, a city in Amini’s home province. The official IRNA news agency reported that a member of the Basij paramilitary force was killed in the Kurdish-majority city of Kamyaran in West Azerbaijan province.

The Oslo-based rights group Hangaav said security forces in Kurdistan province shot a protester on Wednesday in front of the home of one of three protesters killed the day before. The rights group said the killing took place during the funeral of Fouad Mohammadi, the owner of a mobile phone repair shop. Then there were slogans, “Brother Fouad is a hero, martyr of Kurdistan,” the crowd of mourners also posted the video on social media.

Hengau said special forces opened fire on students after entering Kurdistan University in the western city of Sanandaj on Wednesday. At least 342 people, including 43 children and 26 women, have been killed by security forces since Amini’s death, according to figures released on Wednesday by Iran Human Rights (IHR). The rights group also said that at least 15,000 people have been arrested. However, Iranian officials have denied this.

IRNA reported that later on Wednesday, “armed and terrorist elements” on two motorcycles opened fire on protesters and security forces in a main market in the city of Ijeh in Khuzestan. Five people were killed and at least 10 were injured in this. Another victim later died in hospital. Khuzestan’s deputy governor Waliullah Hayati said the dead included three men, a woman and a girl, while some of the injured were in hospital in critical condition. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. IRNA reported that three people linked to the “incidents and riots” in Ijeh have been arrested.

The judiciary said on Wednesday that a revolutionary court handed down three more death sentences over “riots”. One was convicted of killing one by ramming into police with his car. Another had stabbed a security officer and the third had tried to block traffic and cause a riot.
