In Kolkata, youths broke down on the streets celebrating Christmas night in such a way that the rules and regulations of Corona were blown away. Whoever saw the video of such an influx of people in Kolkata Park Street was stunned. After the crowd gathered at markets like Sarojini Nagar Market in Delhi, Juhu Chowpatty in Mumbai, this crowd in Kolkata is being considered as an alarm bell of the spread of Corona. Apart from Park Street, a similar situation of tourists was seen in many other areas in Bengal.
In Park Street, Kolkata’s Central Business District, there will be hardly anyone among the boys and girls in celebration, who have put on a mask. The guidelines issued regarding the coronavirus seemed to disappear here in the noise of music and the horns of vehicles. This area of Chandarnagar was bathed in lights on the occasion of Christmas and there was no place to even set foot on the nearby food and drink shops.
Similar conditions were also seen around other famous tourist places of Kolkata like Alipore Zoo, Eco Park, Victoria Memorial, Millennium Park, Indian Museum. Here too, hardly anyone had a mask on their face. Amidst the huge crowd, the police kept on announcing that people should wear masks and follow social distancing, but they looked helpless. A blatant violation of Covid guidelines and protocol was seen here.
Police officials say that 80 people have been arrested from different parts of the city on Christmas night on charges of illegal activities. 191 youths have also been arrested for not wearing masks in the midst of huge crowd.
