Alaska is part of the seismically active Pacific Ring of Fire.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), a massive 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck the Alaska region today. After the earthquake, a tsunami warning was issued in some areas of the US state. The USGS said the quake was at a depth of 9.3 km (5.78 mi). The Alaska Earthquake Center said tremors were felt in the Alaska Peninsula, Aleutian Islands and Cook Inlet regions. However, there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
