Francis Tiafo advanced to the men’s singles semi-finals of the US Open tennis tournament after beating his better-ranked Andre Rublev in straight sets. 22nd seed Tiafo, who registered the biggest win of his career by defeating 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal in the fourth round, beat ninth seed Rublev to achieve another milestone. The quarter-final match lasted at 2:50 a.m. Thursday, the longest-ending match in US Open history. Nineteen-year-old Alcarez reached a Grand Slam semi-final for the first time and is the youngest male player to reach this milestone since Pete Sampras won the US Open title in 1990 at the age of 19.
