Hearing has started in the Supreme Court on the petition challenging the bail of Union Minister of State for Home Ashish Mishra in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case. This hearing is being done by a special bench of CJI NV Ramana, Justice Surya Kant and Justice Hima Kohli. During the hearing, Justice Surya Kant asked the UP government that the SIT had sent two letters to the Secretary (Home) of UP. SIT recommended cancellation of bail. What is your stand on this?

Mahesh Jethmalani, appearing for the UP government, told the court that the secretaries of the UP government are saying that they have not received any letters. On which the CJI said that he will give the report to the state and the petitioner. We can have a hearing tomorrow.

Will have to answer by Monday
In fact, the retired judge of the High Court monitoring the SIT has recommended to appeal for cancellation of bail of Ashish Mishra. The judge has written a letter to the UP government. The Supreme Court has sought a reply from the UP government on the letter. The UP government will have to answer by Monday.
