United States: a shooting in a North Carolina shopping center left three wounded by gunshots

Three people suffered gunshot wounds this Friday during an armed confrontation between two groups in a shopping center in North Carolina, in the United States.

Durham Police Chief, Patrice andrews, explained to the press that the shooting happened at approximately 3:20 p.m. (local time) on the second floor of The Streets at Southpoint shopping center.

“This is not a situation where someone walked into the mall and just started shooting indiscriminately,” he detailed at a conference.

“I only heard gunshots, and as soon as that happened, everyone turned around and they started running and screaming. Some people ran into the tents, others almost crawled into the tents. It was like mass hysteria, ” said Angela Lloyd, a witness to the event.

During the evacuation of the mall, other three people suffered minor injuries and they were treated by health personnel who came to the scene in ambulances.

“DPD is investigating a shooting incident at The Streets in Southpoint. The mall is being evacuated and will be closed while DPD investigates the incident. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. There are no further threats at the mall,” he posted Durham Police Twitter account.

For its part, the company that owns the establishment lamented the fact: “Streets at Southpoint is a destination for the community to come together. We are saddened and outraged that we were the site of an act of violence so foolish among a group of people. “
