Union Home Ministry canceled FCRA license of 2 NGOs, did not give details of foreign contribution

New Delhi, April 26 (Agency)The Union Home Ministry has canceled the FCRA licenses of two non-governmental organizations (NGOs) ‘Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative’ (CHRI) and ‘Apne Apne Women Worldwide’ (AAWW). Giving this information on Tuesday, officials said that both the NGOs failed to file the mandatory annual financial statements under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act 2010. According to officials, the Home Ministry has also found that the funds received as foreign donations were allegedly misappropriated by NGOs. According to the CHRI’s website, it works in the area of ​​realizing the basic human right of people in Commonwealth countries to obtain information from the government and other public bodies. At the same time, AAWW was founded by 22 women in a redlight area of ​​Mumbai. According to its website, this organization is opposed to the trafficking of women for prostitution and works to help them. From the year 2017 to 2021, the government has canceled the registration of about 1900 NGOs under FCRA.
