Shahabad Markanda, June 2 (NIS)
Angered by the inclusion of sunflower crop in Bhavantar Yojana, the farmers organized a mahapanchayat at Shaheed Udham Singh Memorial on Shahabad Barara Road under the chairmanship of National President of Bhakiyu Gurnam Singh Chadhuni. A large number of farmers participated in it. Many things were discussed in the meeting and the administration was given an hour’s time that any officer should come among them and tell if there is anything new, else the core committee would take its decision. Police officials told the Panchayat at around 12.30 that the Deputy Commissioner and SP Kurukshetra are reaching the spot, so maintain peace. After half an hour, Deputy Commissioner and SP Kurukshetra reached among the farmers and told that the government has formed a committee of high officials regarding the purchase of sunflower. After taking the decision in the core committee, the officials were called in the panchayat and Gurnam Singh Chadhuni said that the core committee has decided that the government and the administration should be given time till June 5 and if a decision is reached, the farmers should be informed. He said that the panchayat has given the administration time till the 5th to take a decision in the interest of the farmers. Gurnam Singh said that MSP to the farmers. Nothing less than this is acceptable and if such a decision is not reached, there will be no talks on June 6 and GT Road will be blocked.
