UK may offer cheap and easy visa to India

Work and tourism visa fee can be reduced for Indians going to Britain.

London:

There is good news for Indian tourists, students and professionals going to Britain. Britain is planning to relax immigration rules, under which it can offer cheap and easy visas to Indians. Britain’s International Trade Minister Anne-Marie Trevelyan is likely to visit India this month. At the same time, formal talks on the proposed India-UK Free Trade Agreement between the two countries are likely to begin. According to the report of ‘The Times’ newspaper, during this visit of Trevelyan is expected to open up the possibility of easing immigration rules for Indians.

This has been a major demand of India for a long time. Trevelyan has the support of Foreign Minister Liz Truss in this matter. The truce has placed closer ties with India at the top of the government’s agenda to counter China’s growing influence. However, it has been said in the news that Home Minister Priti Patel is opposing this move. In May last year, Patel signed a ‘bespoke’ and reciprocal Migration and Mobility Partnership (MMP) with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Under this, about 3,000 students and professionals from both the countries will get the benefit of one year’s work experience with each other.

Under the MMP, the two sides have agreed to work towards a deadline of April 2022 to implement the new system. Work is going on at the High Commission in London and the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi. However, an option is being considered as part of further immigration plans, which is part of the UK’s FTA with Australia. Under this, young Indians can get a chance to work in Britain for three years.

Apart from this, another option is also to cut visa fee for students. Work and tourism visa fees can be deducted. Currently, the cost of a work visa for an Indian works out to £1,400 and £348 for students and tourists.
