New Delhi, 23 August (Language)

A major accident was averted at the Delhi airport on Wednesday when two Vistara aircraft landed on the same runway due to a mistake by the air traffic controller. An officer gave this information. The incident involved a flight from Ahmedabad that landed at Delhi airport and another flight that took off from here to Bagdogra.

Vistara’s Ahmedabad-Delhi flight landed on runway 29L and was instructed by the air traffic controller to cross runway 29R, a senior Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) official said. At the same time, the controller cleared another Vistara flight VTI725 to take off from runway 29R, he said. Realizing the error based on information from flight number VTI926, the tower controller instructed flight number VTI725 to abort.

According to the official, the air controller concerned has been deroosted and the regulator will investigate the incident. No comment has been made by Vistara regarding this incident.
