1. Legumes: Foods like beans, lentils and gram fight cholesterol. They are rich in soluble fiber, which forms a gel-like substance in your digestive system, which removes cholesterol from your body. Legumes contain plant sterols, natural compounds that help reduce cholesterol.
2. Nuts: Almonds, in particular, are rich in monounsaturated fats and L-arginine, an amino acid essential for nitric oxide production, which helps control blood pressure. They contain phytosterols which can help control cholesterol.
3. Apple: Apples are a source of polyphenols, compounds that can positively affect cholesterol levels.
4. Garlic: A compound called allicin present in garlic not only gives it flavor, but also plays a big role in cholesterol management by potentially reducing total cholesterol and bad cholesterol levels.
