They will hold a reading aloud contest for teachers from kindergarten to third

As part of the World Read Aloud Day celebration, the Flamboyan Foundation launched, in collaboration with the Spanish and Early Childhood programs of the Education department of Puerto Ricothe reading aloud contest, “Everyone to read!… with my teachers” for educators from Kindergarten to third levels of the island’s public education system. $1,000 in prizes will be awarded to 20 winners who stand out for the popularity and quality of their readings.

“The best practice to inspire the student to want to read and love reading is reading aloud. For this reason, the Flamboyán Foundation provides this exclusive opportunity for regular current K-3 teachers, K-3 special education teachers and Taller 1 Montessori guides who work with the Puerto Rico Department of Education, to participate in this contest that seeks make visible and celebrate the work of promoting reading that teachers carry out with their students on a daily basis”, informed Carlos Rodríguez Silvestre, executive director of the Flamboyán Foundation.

“Reading is a fundamental part of childhood development. Our commitment to children is aimed at providing the necessary tools so that they can foster a love of conscious reading, which leads to critical thinking, vocabulary development and fluency when speaking and reading. This is why we ventured into this competition that will bring our educators even closer to their students. It is a fun and different way and we understand it will have great benefits for students. I urge our primary grade educators to participate in this great initiative”, said the secretary of the Department of Education, Eliezer Ramos Parés.

To participate, each interested teacher must record a video while reading aloud and then upload it to www.todosaleerconmismaestros.org between the dates of February 2 to February 27, 2022. On said platform, the videos of all the contestants will be open to public evaluation and voting between the dates of March 7 to 13. Only the videos with the highest popularity and votes will advance to the second round of the contest where a panel of judges will evaluate the finalists based on the criteria that define a quality read aloud.

Each winner will receive a $1,000 prize divided as follows: $500 for personal use and an additional $500 for the purchase of high-quality educational materials and children’s literature. The use of the personal award is unrestricted. However, the prize related to the purchase of educational materials and children’s literature can only be redeemed through Flamboyán.
