The United States urged Canada to use federal forces to unblock border crossings occupied by anti-vaccines

The United States on Thursday urged Canada to use its federal forces to unlock the three border crossings that are occupied by truckers who started protests against compulsory vaccination against the coronavirus and against the restriction measures to contain the pandemic.

More precisely, from Washington they asked Ottawa to use its “federal powers” to put an end to the demonstrations and even they offered him their “full help“, White House officials reported Thursday, while assuring that the administration in charge of Joe Biden is “mobilized 24 hours a day to quickly put an end” to the crisis.

Four days after the blockade of the Ambassador Bridge, which connects Ontario with the state of Detroit, another border crossing was targeted by Canadian protesters: that of Emerson, which connects Manitoba with North Dakota, and which adds to the obstruction in the intersection of the province of Alberta.

“A protest involving a large number of agricultural vehicles and equipment is blocking the Emerson port of entry,” Manitoba Police said on its official Twitter account.

The protesters, led by freight truckers, they have been on the streets for two weeks and the conflict mainly affects the automotive industry, on both sides of the border, since giants such as Ford, Stellantis and Toyota had to suspend or temporarily slow down the production lines in several of their plants.

The Ambassador Bridge is a crucial gateway for the automobile industries. Without going any further, more than 40,000 travelers, tourists and truckers carrying goods worth 323 million dollars cross that bridge every day.

For his part, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau demanded an end to the protests: “It’s time for this to end because it hurts Canadians.”

Considering that the situation represents a “national crisis”the mayor of the city of Windsor, Drew Dilkens, announced his intention to “expel” the protesters “to allow the safe and efficient movement of goods across the border”, if a court allows it.

Meanwhile, the local police explained again that “it was not in a position” to “stop” the demonstration without reinforcements, since “do not have enough resources” to “prevent the supply of gasoline to the trucks” that block the streets, nor to “make arrests,” explained his boss, Peter Sloly. In fact, the police have only made two arrests since Wednesday, which raised 25 arrests since the start of the movement.

The call “liberty convoy” began in January in the Canadian West driven by truckers who refuse compulsory vaccination or be tested to cross the border with the United States.

The movement then led to a protest more against all health measures against Covid-19 and, in some sectors, against the Trudeau government.

In this context, dozens of chambers of commerce and industry associations in Canada and the United States demanded that the bridge be cleared: “When our economies emerge from the impacts of the pandemic, we cannot allow any group to undermine cross-border trade.”

The movement of truckers even spread to other countries of the worldfrom New Zealand to France and Belgium.

In France, thousands of Canadian trucker-inspired protesters plan to converge on Paris on Friday night, ready to move on to Brussels on Monday.

the prefecture of paris police announced that it will apply “a specific device” from Friday to Monday “to prevent the blockade” of the French capitalemphasizing that the prohibition of “convoys” will govern.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Brussels officially prohibited this Thursday the realization of the demonstration “Freedom convoys”, scheduled for the weekend with a blockade in the city, and ordered special measures.
