The Oscars give Will Smith 15 days to testify before taking disciplinary action

The Hollywood Academy invited the actor on Wednesday Will Smith to send a written statement about his conduct at the gala of the Oscar on Sunday, where he slapped the comedian Chris Rock for a comment about his wife.

According to a statement sent to EFE, The actor has 15 days to submit that statement before the Academy “takes any disciplinary action” on April 18.which could be “suspension, expulsion, or any other sanction permitted by statute.”

Also, the Academy clarified that it asked Smith to leave the ceremony but he refused, although the organization admitted that “it could have handled the situation differently.”

Last Monday night, Smith apologized to the comedian for slapping him in the middle of the broadcast in reaction to a “joke” Rock made about his wife’s hair, Jada Pinkett Smith, who has revealed that he suffers from alopecia. He accepted that the violent altercation was “unacceptable and inexcusable.” Furthermore, he argued that violence, “in all its forms, is poisonous and destructive.”

Likewise, on his Instagram account he apologized to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the program’s producers, the attendees, the William family – who inspired the movie King Richard – and “everyone who saw it throughout the world”.

Precisely, the Academy issued public expressions hours before in which it condemns the actions of Smith and reported that a formal investigation into the event had begun. Also, they announced at that time that they would analyze what the consequences would be for the violent act, in accordance with the agency’s regulations, the standards of conduct and California law.
