Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday greeted the countrymen on Panchayati Raj Day and called for making Panchayats more empowered to build a self-reliant India. He tweeted, “Wishing you all a very Happy National Panchayati Raj Day. Panchayats are the cornerstone of Indian democracy, in whose strength lies the prosperity of the new India. Let us take a pledge to further empower our Panchayats in building a self-reliant India. The day of April 24, 1993 is considered historical in the direction of decentralization of power in the country, because on this day the Panchayati Raj system came into existence through the 73rd amendment in the Constitution. The Ministry of Panchayati Raj celebrates National Panchayati Raj Day on 24 April every year. This event is an opportunity to speak directly to the Panchayat representatives from different parts of the country and to honor their achievements, empower and inspire them further. Prime Minister Modi will visit Palli village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district on Sunday on the occasion of National Panchayati Raj Day and participate in a program organized there.
