The striking employees have accused Sharad Pawar of ignoring their demands.

Maharashtra’s veteran politician Sharad Pawar’s daughter and MP Supriya Sule found herself surrounded by a group of State Transport Corporation protesters outside her house on Friday. There are reports that some of these protesters misbehaved with her (Supriya). In fact, about 100 employees of Maharashtra Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) demonstrated outside Sharad Pawar’s house in South Mumbai. The protesters raised slogans against the senior politician and accused the NCP supremo of ignoring their demand to make MSRTC a full-fledged government unit. Employees in the number of 15 to 20 also tried to enter Sharad Pawar’s house.

It is worth noting that thousands of MSRTC employees are on strike since November 2021. They are demanding that they should be treated like state employees and the corporation facing financial crunch should be merged with the government. The protest was organized a day after the Bombay High Court directed the striking employees to join duty from April 22. In the context of the order of the court, the State Transport Minister Anil Parab has assured that no action will be taken against the employees who join duty on the deadline fixed by the High Court. The employees reached Pawar’s Mumbai residence ‘Silver Oak’ in the afternoon and raised slogans against him. Not only this, some employees also threw slippers and shoes in the house.
A striking MSRTC employee told news agency PTI, ‘During the strike, around 120 MSRTC personnel have committed suicide. It is like suicide but murder because of the policies of the state. We stand firm on our demand for merger. Sharad Pawar has done nothing to resolve the issue. ‘ Another employee said, ‘We respect the decision given by the Bombay High Court on Thursday but we are discussing this issue with the state government which has been elected by the people. This elected government has done nothing. Sharad Pawar, the ‘Chanakya’ of this government, is also responsible for this. Pawar is considered the main mentor/guide of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government formed in November 2019, led by Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress.
