The mayor of San Miguel de Allende, in the state of Guanajuato, Mauricio Trejo Purecopromoted alcohol consumption at a concert at the San Miguel Arcángel Fair, giving some young people tequila to drink.
The video in which the PRI mayor gives tequila to a young woman amid laughter and applause from several of his collaborators and in front of hundreds of people, is already viral.
The event occurred on the night of Saturday, October 1, 2022, during the concert of the group Los Alameños de la Sierraan event that was part of the traditional Fair of San Miguel Arcángel.
According to the video, the municipal president previously sent a message to the people who came to see the Los Alameños de la Sierra group.
“I hope you are enjoying your fair, I hope you come to drag your boots. I am Mauricio Trejo”, he expressed before the crowd.
Later, the mayor came down from the stage and, with a bottle of tequila in hand, began to give the concertgoers a drink, most of them young.
The mayor of San Miguel de Allende has been criticized for promoting alcohol consumption and more when your municipality is adhered to the anti addiction program of the Government of Guanajuato known as Planet Youth, which seeks to inhibit the consumption of substances to reduce crime.
In 2019, the State Government began to implement the Icelandic Planet Youth addiction prevention model, with the aim of improving the conditions of minors and young people.
The 46 municipalities signed the agreement to prevent addictions through the Planet Youth program.
According to a study conducted as part of the Planet Youth program, 37.2 percent of students in San Miguel de Allende have tried alcohol once in their life, 25.8 percent consumed intoxicating beverages in the last 12 months, and 15.7 percent took in the last 30 days.
The study revealed that 11.8 percent have been drunk once; 8.5 percent did so in the last 12 months and 5.6 percent got drunk in the last 30 days.
Members of the City Council said that by giving alcohol to young people, Mauricio Trejo is projecting a bad image of the government from San Miguel de Allende.
“I don’t think it’s the most appropriate thing for a mayor, we are part of a program -Planet Youth- and the first thing we should do is promote it and avoid falling into those situations, that they give young people a drink,” he told the media. communication the PAN alderman, Felipe Tapia Campos.
The administration should promote addiction preventionbut Mauricio Trejo is promoting them, he lamented.
