Shami injured, Umran gets a chance

New Delhi, 3 December (Agency)

Pacer Mohammed Shami will be ruled out of the ODI series against Bangladesh starting on Sunday due to a shoulder injury. Umran Malik has been included in his place. The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) gave this information on Saturday. The first match of the series will start at 11:30 Indian time.

Shami had injured himself during the practice session after returning from Australia. He is also doubtful for the two-Test series starting December 14 in Chittagong. In the three-match series against Bangladesh, now the responsibility of fast bowling will be on the shoulders of Mohammad Siraj, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, Umran Malik and Kuldeep Sen. If Shami misses the Test series, it will be a matter of concern for skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid as India need to win every match to keep alive their hopes of reaching the final of the World Test Championship.
