Amid a mixed trend in global markets, the domestic stock market rose on Thursday and the BSE Sensex closed with a gain of 443 points. Markets edged higher with gains in information technology and bank stocks. The 30-share BSE Sensex closed at 52,265.72 points, up 443.19 points, or 0.86 per cent. The standard index had climbed up to 694.26 points during trading. Similarly, the Nifty of the National Stock Exchange also closed at 15,556.65, up 143.35 points, or 0.93 per cent. Maruti, Mahindra & Mahindra, Asian Paints, Bharti Airtel, TCS, Sun Pharma, Wipro, ICICI Bank and Hindustan Unilever were the major gainers in the Sensex stocks. On the other hand, shares of Reliance Industries, NTPC, Power Grid and UltraTech Cement closed with a fall. In other Asian markets, Japan’s Nikkei, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index and China’s Shanghai Composite edged up, while South Korea’s Kospi closed marginally lower.
