Due to climate change, permafrost (the land on which snow is always frozen) can pose a new threat to humans. According to researchers who found about two dozen viruses, these included viruses frozen under a lake 48,500 years ago. European researchers have examined ancient samples collected from beneath permafrost in the Siberia region of Russia. They have found 13 new microbes and told about them. They named it the “zombie virus” and found that they remained infectious despite living in frozen ground for several thousand years.
