In the Lok Sabha, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party raised the demand for not giving the benefit of reservation to the members of the Scheduled Tribes who convert. At the same time, a member of RSP requested to bring LIC agents under the ambit of Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC). Subhash Bahedia of BJP, while presenting his subject under Rule 377 in the House, said that the people of the Scheduled Tribes who became Muslims and Christians by conversion should not get the benefit of reservation. RSP’s NK Premachandran said that thousands of agents of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) across the country are facing many problems and the government should take an early decision on the five pending proposals of the Ministry of Labor and Employment to bring them under the purview of ESIC. Meanwhile, BJP’s Sudarshan Bhagat underlined the abundance of Sal and Mahua trees in Odisha’s Gumla and demanded setting up of a processing unit in the area to extract edible oil from their seeds. BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri called for the implementation of 27 percent reservation for the OBC community in Delhi Judicial Service and Higher Judicial Services. DMK’s T Sumathi said the beaches in Tamil Nadu from Chennai to Kanyakumari need cleaning.
