Saudy Rivera on her husband’s health: “Iván is a miracle of God”

The presenter and businesswoman saudi rivera shared this morning the “way of the cross” that she and her family have faced, after her husband Ivan Rivera suffered a stroke on April 19 that has completely changed his life.

Saudy offered his testimony today on the program “Nation Z” of the station Z93 FM about the health mishap of his life partner for 22 years, whom he describes as “a miracle that God granted us.” The presenter returned to space today.

The faith, the prayers of a battalion of people, the health professionals of the Specialized Stroke Unit of the Mennonite Hospital in Caguas, the optimism and strength of her husband to continue living, are the summary that Saudy makes to be able to explain the state of health that her beloved husband has today.

The firefighter by profession had to undergo various medical procedures and surgeries to keep him alive, including a craniotomy, two intubations, treatment for pneumonia and, currently, he is hospitalized in an institution specializing in therapies where he is cared for by a large group of specialists and doctors working on your recovery.

“This has been a via crucis and it is the best word that we have had to live as a family. This is not my business, it is just that of a whole family that has assumed this difficult situation. Iván is a miracle from God and every doctor who has seen his case and his file affirms the same thing. How is he alive? Iván is a miracle and the request to God is that he allow me to take him to our daughters’ house and God has granted it to us, ”said the entertainer in the morning program that she joined after weeks dedicated entirely to the crisis of her husband’s health.

Saudy said that her 41-year-old husband began the first symptoms last April 19 at his job as a firefighter. However, it was not until noon that Rivera arrived at their business for lunch and the cheerleader began to notice that something was wrong with her husband, since she dropped her objects and she could not hold them well. She also had difficulty speaking.

At the insistence of the communicator and the couple’s youngest daughter, Valentina, he was transferred to the nearest hospital and there began his first agony when he recognized that her husband’s health was deteriorating and he was not treated in the emergency room. In that hospital emergency room that he preferred not to reveal his name in the Condado area, he was only attended by a “security guard who told me to take a number and wait.”

Given the inaction in the emergency room, she was transferred like “crazy” to the Cardiovascular Hospital on the recommendation of her lawyer who called the institution to receive Rivera. Upon arrival at the hospital, a nurse received them and the doctor on duty asked the presenter why she had taken her husband there? Since that was not the place because “what he has is a ‘stroke’”.

“The doctor, whose name I am going to withhold, and seeing her from the point of view of frustration told me: ‘why did you bring him here, you don’t see what he has. What he has is a ‘stroke’ and here the machines are damaged to make a CT. I have two identical patients there,” said Saudy, who in the midst of the agony and tension did not understand the insensitivity to the health crisis, which not only her husband experienced, but “hundreds of patients who come across this in hospitals ”.

It was the same doctor from the Cardiovascular Hospital who recommended Rivera’s transfer to the Mennonite Hospital in Caguas. Rivera was transferred by ambulance and once in the Mennonite Hospital unit they began to stabilize what they could, since many hours had passed and in the case of strokes, the first hours are vital for the patient’s health.

Saudy acknowledged that if it were not for the group of doctors at the Mennonite hospital in Caguas, her husband would not be alive.

“It was difficult to make the decision of yes or no to a craniotomy trusting in God that this was the correct process and putting the brain in the hands of Dr. Alcedo, extraordinary. The doctor performed frontal surgery so that in his case the damage would be minor and his speech would not be affected, because Iván was speaking. Once Iván was intubated because it had to be done to save him, then he caught pneumonia as a result of the intubation, fluid retention and it affected him. So they intubate him a second time and we deal with both. There is an emergency of the neurological system and is now in an intensive care hospital (receiving) occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech, “said the entertainer.

Currently, Rivera is admitted to the Encompass rehabilitation hospital in Manatí. For now, the cheerleader’s only request to the town is that they continue to pray for her family and “allow me to work.”

“Now more than ever I need to continue working and helping a family move forward,” he said.
