new Delhi:

Germany’s security and foreign policy adviser Jens Plotner said on Wednesday that Russia’s ongoing offensive against Ukraine could have disastrous consequences for the world if not stopped. Plotner also said that Germany understands New Delhi’s constraints and challenges. He said Europe had no need to “discourse or teach” the country about its stand on the Ukraine crisis.

He said that the world should understand the geopolitical repercussions of Russia’s attack on Ukraine and if it is not stopped, it will have big consequences for the world.

The German official made the remarks in a media interaction hours before holding talks with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla.

Informing about the steps taken by Germany to cut Russian energy supply, Plutner said that Germany hopes that other countries will not “neutralize” the burden that we are putting on ourselves.

Referring to Western sanctions against Moscow, he said Germany expects no allied country in the world to take any step to really take “economic advantage” of the war.

“You (India) live in a complex neighbourhood, you have challenges of your own, constraints. One of the purposes of my discussion today is to better understand how this geopolitical peculiarity of India plays into your analysis of what is happening in Ukraine.

Plotner said the purpose of his visit was to learn more about India’s views on the conflict and to share Germany’s perspective.
