Russia-Ukraine war: they seized in Italy one of the largest yachts in the world, which belongs to a Russian billionaire

The Italian authorities seized this Saturday a yacht that is among the largest in the world, valued at 530 million eurosowned by Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko, close to Russian President Vladimir Putin, within the framework of the sanctions imposed by that country’s invasion of Ukraine.

The ship, from 143 meters in length (length)was kidnapped in the port of Triestein northern Italy, said Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi.

Italian authorities determined that the vessel, “SyA,” belonged to billionaire Andrey Igorevich Melnichenko, who is on the European Union (EU) list of people to be sanctioned.

Melnichenko, founder of the MDB bank and with investments in the petrochemical sector, made his fortune with the production of fertilizers and coal power.

Last week, Italian authorities seized yachts and luxury villas of Russian tycoonsvalued at about €143 millionin places as picturesque as Sardinia, the Italian Riviera and Lake Como.

One of the most important embargoes so far had been the yacht Lady Mowned by businessman Alexey Mordashov, also close to Putin.

In addition, a luxury boat was seized, the Firewoodfrom the billionaire founder of Gunvor (commodity trading company), Gennady Timchenko, and which has an estimated value of €50 million.

As regards real estate, a property valued at about €17 million Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov.

Real estate belonging to two personalities close to the Russian government, valued at around €11 million.

More than 500 Russian persons or entities were subject to sanctions by the European Union. The States of Europe seize assets and economic resources as they locate them and manage to relate them to their owners.
