Russia accuses the US of preventing Ukraine from accepting the Kremlin’s ‘minimum demands’ in negotiations to stop the war

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused the United States on Saturday of preventing the Ukrainian government from accepting “Moscow’s minimum requests” in the negotiations between the two countries to try to stop the war.

“It constantly feels like the Ukrainian delegation is led by the handmost likely by the US, and is not allowed to accept the demands that I think are absolutely minimal,” Lavrov was quoted as saying by the Interfax agency.

He added: “We always advocated a diplomatic solution to every problem when (Ukrainian President Volodymyr) Zelensky proposed talks in the midst of hostilities, and our president accepted them.”

During the negotiations, Lavrov said, “we have constantly had the impression that the Ukrainian delegation is controlled by someoneprobably the Americans, and prevented from agreeing to our requests, which I consider to be absolutely minimal.

“Despite all the talks, they are advancing,” the Russian foreign minister concluded.
