Rio de Janeiro will host the first CS:GO Major in South America

The IEM Rio Major marks the 10th ESL Gaming Major since the first Major tournament was held at DreamHack Winter in 2013.

Initially, the event was scheduled to take place between April 26 and May 24, 2020, but finally was postponed due to the global Covid-19 pandemic that restricted all kinds of face-to-face entertainment.

Tickets for the IEM Rio Major will go on sale on Wednesday, May 25 at 2:00 p.m. in Argentina. Prices range from R$90 (745.93 pesos without taxes) for the day pass on Thursday or Friday and R$1,999 ($49,000 pesos without taxes) for a VIP experience called “Salón”.

The American team on Sunday became the first all-international team to win a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Major after beating Natus Vincere (NAVI) 2-0, in the face-to-face final in Antwerp (Belgium), which was seen by more than 2 million people through the Internet.

Previous CS:GO Major winning teams have generally been made up of players of the same nationality such as Astralis (Denmark), Cloud9 (USA), SK Gaming (Brazil), Team Envy (France) or fnatic (Sweden). In fact, NAVI he won in 2021 with a roster made up of a mix of players of Russian and Ukrainian origin.

FaZe kicked off their run to the title after beating Ninjas in Pajamas 2-1 in the quarterfinals and a 2-0 victory over Team Spirit in the semifinals. The latter led the American team to a definition of 25-23 in triple overtime. Meanwhile, NAVI pushed FaZe into overtime on the first map of the finals, which he ultimately won 19-16.

With this title, the American team won all three major CS:GO tournaments of the year: IEM Katowice, ESL Pro League Season 15 and PGL Major Antwerp.
