Recruitment scam: Vice Chancellor of North Bengal University arrested

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday arrested Subiresh Bhattacharya, the Vice Chancellor of Uttar Banga University (NBU) in West Bengal in connection with the 2016 assistant teacher recruitment scam. Officials gave this information. Bhattacharya, former chairman of the West Bengal Central School Service Commission, was called for questioning at the CBI office in Kolkata. Officials said the CBI took him into custody for not cooperating in the interrogation. Bhattacharya was the chairman of the commission from 2014-18.

Officials said the investigation was initiated by the CBI on the instructions of the Calcutta High Court. It is alleged that the then advisor to the commission, SP Sinha, along with others, had given undue advantage to ineligible, unlisted and lower ranked candidates in the appointment of assistant teachers for classes IX and 10 in the state level selection examination conducted by the commission in 2016. Had given. The CBI had recently detained Sinha, who was already in judicial custody in connection with a separate FIR.
