Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra will accompany Ricky Martin in his concerts at the Choliseo

“This is an opportunity to fulfill the dream of everyone who studies music in Puerto Rico and dreams of somehow being part of the Symphony Orchestra, either as a performer, arranger, and director. I am doubly happy because it is for Ricky and also for the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra for which I have so much love, respect and admiration,” said maestro Peña before beginning the first rehearsal with part of the musicians who will capture their talent. at the concert in which hits from Martin’s extensive repertoire are given symphonic treatment.

“All of Ricky’s music can be done in a classical arrangement. They will listen to everything from the most sublime and beautiful songs to the tasty bombas, plenas and spectacular rocking. It’s going to be one of the most spectacular experiences in music. They will be able to enjoy not only the symphonic sound, but they will be able to dance with joy and the greatness of the arrangements. This is going to be a very special experience,” said Peña, who in the past has participated in the classic popular music format for other artists such as Gilberto Santa Rosa and Gamma Rays.

The music director added that working with the caliber of OSPR musicians is easy as the “sound is played by angels and it’s so beautiful”.

OSPR Executive Director Melissa Santana He also attended the first meeting of the musicians with Martin’s repertoire and stressed that the show validates the efforts that the musical institution has been making for years to expand its audience on the island.

“Being able to be with an artist like Ricky Martin opens up more opportunities for us not only to share with him and his audience, but also for the general public to see what the Symphony Orchestra is doing and for us this concert is very important. Peña, for his part, recalled the first works that Martin did in the Banco Popular television specials in which the musical maestro was a participant and said that he has followed the musical career of the award-winning artist from Menudo to the present, for which he highlighted that the voice of “A veces bien y a veces mal” was always a determined artist to achieve everything he sets out to do.

“I’ve worked with him since he was a young man on TV specials and early on I got to see the things that have made him who he is. The passion, the commitment, the seriousness with his work and above all the confidence that since he was a child he had to say ‘I can’ and he did it”, said Peña, who as of today begins rehearsals with the musicians of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra.
