When Ana Santiago decided to enter the El Nuevo Día contest “We will take you to New York to the concert of Ricardo Arjona at Madison Square Garden!”, she never imagined she would earn a trip from Puerto Rico for an evening she and her daughter Leoannie Otero would never forget.
“This is very exciting”, recounted Ana who, as a follower of Arjona over the years, expected her to interpret “Lady of the four decades”. Ana had never seen Arjona in concert and after this opportunity, she hopes to see him again in Puerto Rico with her cousin.
For Ana, the contest meant a meeting with her brother who traveled from Albany to Manhattan to spend a few hours with his sister and niece. Shortly before the concert began, members of the production gave them a tour backstage at Madison Square Garden, passing through a gallery of photos of stars such as Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks and Dave Grohl.
Around 11 pm, when Arjona and his band were still playing the last chords of “Mujeres”, the concert would not end for Ana and Leoannie. While an image of Ana appeared on the concert screen, among that of other followers of the singer, members of the production took them to the behind the scenes for a surprise: “We waited for him to come down from the stage,” Leoannie said. She “she greeted us and hugged us. She was super friendly. It was a moment full of emotions”.
Before that moment occurred, when she had no idea what the night would hold for her and her daughter, Ana expressed, “I never thought I was going to win this. They are experiences that are never forgotten”.
A stop in New York on the “Blanco y Negro: Volver Tour” is followed by a show in Florida before returning to Puerto Rico. After appearing on the island last year, Arjona will return to the Coliseo de Puerto Rico next Friday, June 30 and Saturday, July 1.
