Prime Minister Narendra Modi should stop the rupee from scoring a century: Congress

The Congress on Tuesday took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the depreciation of the rupee against the dollar, saying he should now stop the rupee from scoring a century. Party spokesperson Supriya Shrinet also alleged that the fall in the rupee exposed the failure of the Modi government. Supriya sarcastically said, “There is only one request to Modi ji to stop the rupee from scoring a century.” The exchange rate of the rupee against the US currency on Tuesday rose by nine paise to 81.58 per dollar (tentative). The rupee opened at 81.45 in the interbank foreign exchange market. During trading, it went to a high of 81.30 per dollar and a low of 81.64. In the end, it closed at 81.58 per dollar, up nine paise against the previous closing price. He claimed, “Forex reserves fell by $26 billion in the last one month. In the last one year, it fell from $ 642 billion to $ 545.5 billion. Inflation increased further due to continuous depreciation of rupee, loan installments also increased. Referring to a statement from the past of the Prime Minister, he said, “The rupee has become the weakest in history, due to the immense kindness of Modi ji, and those who used to talk about falling credibility, do not know in which pit it is diving. According to a Congress spokesperson, on May 26, 2014, when Narendra Modi was sworn in as the Prime Minister for the first time, the value of the rupee was 58.62 against a dollar, which has now increased to about Rs 82.
