Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to Jammu and Kashmir today to participate in the National Panchayati Raj Day celebrations. This is PM Modi’s first visit to Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 and special status in the state. During this, the PM inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of several development initiatives worth more than Rs 20,000 crore. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Union Minister Jitendra Singh were present with him on the stage. The PM inaugurated the Banihal Qazigund Road Tunnel here, which will help bring the regions of Jammu and Kashmir closer. Also the foundation stone of Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway and Ratle and Kwar hydroelectric projects have been laid.
tight security arrangements
After the abrogation of Article 370 in August, 2019, this visit of PM to Jammu and Kashmir is considered very important. Security was tightened in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, a day before PM Modi visited the Palli Panchayat in Samba. Because recently there was a heavy encounter between two suicide bombers of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JEM) and security forces here on Friday.
PM to inaugurate Banihal Qazigund Road Tunnel
The Prime Minister will inaugurate the Banihal Qazigund Road Tunnel built at a cost of over Rs 3100 crore. The 8.45 km long tunnel will reduce the road distance between Banihal and Qazigund by 16 km and reduce the travel time by about one and a half hours. The tunnel will help in establishing all-weather connectivity between Jammu and Kashmir and bring the two regions closer.
Foundation stone of Ratle and Kwar hydroelectric projects to be laid
PM will lay the foundation stone of three road packages of Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway. Along with this, the foundation stone of Ratle and Kwar hydroelectric projects will also be laid. At the same time, 850 MW Ratle Hydroelectric Project will be constructed on Chenab river in Kishtwar district at a cost of about Rs 5300 crore. The 540 MW Kwar Hydroelectric Project will also be built on the Chenab river in Kishtwar district at a cost of more than Rs. Both the projects will help in meeting the power requirements of the region.
PM to inaugurate solar power plant
PM Modi will also inaugurate a 500 kW solar power plant in the parish, which will make it the first panchayat in the country to become carbon neutral. Also, under the PM scheme, SVAMITVA cards will be handed over to the beneficiaries. He will also transfer the prize money to those panchayats who are award winners for their achievements in various categories on National Panchayati Raj Day. To ensure rejuvenation of water bodies, during his visit to Jammu and Kashmir, PM Modi will also launch a new initiative named Amrit Sarovar. Its objective is to develop and rejuvenate 75 water bodies in each district of the country. This is yet another honor of the government towards the celebration of the Amrit Mahotsav of Azadi.
