Two pictures showing Russian President Vladimir Putin as German dictator Adolf Hitler, being circulated on social media as the cover of Time Magazine, have turned out to be fake. Various fact-checking websites said on Monday that both the images were created through artwork by graphic designers. These pictures were being shared continuously on social media since last week’s attack on Ukraine on Thursday.

In one of these images, Putin is shown with Hitler’s mustache, while in another, the photos of Putin and Hitler have been mixed and there is a Nazi swastika. The viral post shows that these pictures are part of the issue of the magazine, dated 28 February-7 March. Both these images have been shared with the text “The Return of History, How Putin Shattered Europe’s Dream”. Although the cover page of the official Time has the same text, the picture is of a Russian tank stationed in Ukraine during the war. Time magazine has tweeted the original photo from its official Twitter handle.
