Now AAP MP Sanjay Singh arrested in Delhi Excise Policy –

New Delhi, October 4 (Language)

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has now arrested Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh in the Delhi Excise Policy case.

Earlier on Wednesday, ED raided the premises of MP Sanjay Singh throughout the day. Officials said searches were also conducted at the premises of some other people in connection with the case. The ED had earlier interrogated Singh (51)’s staff members and others associated with him.

It is alleged that the Delhi government’s excise policy for 2021-22 for granting licenses to liquor traders benefited some dealers who allegedly paid bribes for it. AAP has denied this allegation. This policy was canceled after the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi recommended a CBI investigation. The ED had registered a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) after the CBI probe was recommended.

The ED chargesheet said Dinesh Arora, a middleman, had told that he had met Sanjay Singh during a party at his restaurant ‘Unplugged Courtyard’. The chargesheet said that in 2020, Singh had asked Arora to collect money from restaurant owners for the Aam Aadmi Party for the Delhi Assembly elections. Dinesh Arora told that he had given a check of Rs 82 lakh for the party. According to the chargesheet, Dinesh Arora said in his statement that another accused Amit Arora wanted help in shifting his liquor shop from Okhla to Pitampura. He got this done through Dinesh Arora, who informed Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia about this and the Excise Department helped in the matter. The chargesheet states that Dinesh Arora had also spoken to Chief Ministers Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia.

This action was taken due to asking questions on Adani: AAP

On this raid, AAP spokesperson Reena Gupta said, ‘Sanjay Singh has been asking questions on the issue of Adani, hence raids are being conducted at his residence. The central agencies had not found anything earlier also. Still nothing will be found. Earlier they had raided the residence of some journalists and today they are searching the residence of Sanjay Singh. Meanwhile, Sanjay Singh’s father Dinesh Singh said that his family is cooperating with the ED.

Kejriwal is the kingpin, handcuffs are not far away: BJP

BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia alleged that Delhi CM Kejriwal is the ‘kingpin’ of the liquor scam. He said, ‘The handcuffs are coming closer to Kejriwal…’ Meanwhile, Delhi BJP workers demonstrated near the AAP office on Wednesday demanding Kejriwal’s resignation. BJP’s Delhi unit president Virendra Sachdeva said, ‘All those involved in the liquor scam will soon be behind bars.’
