With an air of nostalgia, the Japanese video game publisher Nintendo announced today, Wednesday, that they would be reviving the classic Super Mario RPGTempered for modern times and for its console of the moment, the nintendoswitch.
Super Mario RPG was originally released in 1996 for the Super Nintendo console and under the title of Super Mario RPG: The Legend of the Seven Stars. The game allowed fans of the red plumber to break out of running and platforming to engage enemies in a more tactical, turn-based manner.
“The Mushroom Kingdom faces a new threat when a giant sword falls from the sky and wreaks havoc on the land. Mario must assemble a team of unlikely allies to take on the infamous Smithy Gang!read the description for information on the original game that was once available for sale on the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Wii U, but is no longer available.
The new game is expected to recycle this same story, but at the same time it is accompanied by a modernization of the old graphics.
Super Mario RPG will be available for the Nintendo Switch from November 17 of this year.
RPG, or Role-Playing Game, refers to a style of video game where players take on roles to face adversity, usually leading up to a great evil that they must defeat to win. This genre of video games was born from the classic board game Dungeons & Dragons, which has recently seen a resurgence in popularity.
The announcement of the “remake” was given during one of the regular “Nintendo Direct” that the company carries out today to let its followers know the recent titles that will be launching. Other games announced included an expansion for the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet game, a new Sonic The Hedgehog game, and a new classic Mario-style game titled “Super Mario Wonder,” among others.
