Rafael Nadal, playing his 112th match of his career amidst the noise of ‘Ra Fa Ra Fa’ at Roland Garros, proved why he is called the King of Red Gravel with a five-set victory. Nadal defeated Felix Oger Eliassime 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in a four-and-a-half hour fourth round match. He will now face Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals. Djokovic has a career record of 30-28 against Nadal but Nadal has won seven matches against him and lost two at the French Open. Djokovic defeated 15th seed Diego Schwartzman 6-1, 6-3, 6-3. In the other quarter-finals, Alexander Zverev will face world No. 6 Carlos Alcaraz of Spain. Zverev defeated qualifier Bernabé Zapata Miralles 7-6, 7-5, 6-3. In the women’s section, 18-year-old Coco Gow will face American Sloane Stephens while 2021 US Open runner-up Layla Fernandez of Canada will take on Italy’s 59th-ranked Martina Trevisan.
