Musewala murder: HC dismisses Lawrence Bishnoi’s plea

Chandigarh, June 2 (Agency) The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday dismissed a plea by jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi seeking a direction not to send him to the custody of Punjab Police in connection with the murder of singer Sidhu Musewala. Bishnoi is suspected to be involved in the murder of Punjabi singer Moosewala. Bishnoi had moved the High Court here on Wednesday after his petition was withdrawn from the Delhi High Court. Bishnoi had withdrawn his plea in the Delhi High Court seeking necessary security due to the fear of a “fake encounter” by the Punjab Police. Bishnoi’s plea was heard in the court of Justice Sureshwar Thakur on Thursday and Punjab Advocate General Anmol Ratan Sidhu argued that the petition should be dismissed. “We raised the issue that the petition is not maintainable and should be dismissed,” he told reporters here. He said that the petition was dismissed and it was not maintainable. Sidhu said that Bishnoi has not been named in the FIR registered in the Moosewala murder case. He said Bishnoi is already in police custody till June 5, as ordered by the Delhi Metropolitan Magistrate. In the petition, filed through advocates Sangram Saraon and Shubpreet Kaur, Bishnoi had sought a direction to the High Court to restrain the judicial magistrate in Mansa from handing him over to the Punjab probe agency’s custody.
