Mumbai Police Commissioner releases video, responds to Navneet Rana’s allegations of misbehavior

Navneet Rana and her husband Ravi Rana arrested

Mumbai:

Independent MP Navneet Rana and her MLA husband Ravi Rana, who had announced to recite Hanuman Chalisa outside Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s house, could not get bail from the sessions court on Tuesday and the hearing was postponed. Navneet Rana, arrested on sedition and other charges, had alleged misbehavior in judicial custody, but in response, the Mumbai Police Commissioner released a video. After the allegations of MP Rana, the Ministry of Home Affairs had summoned a report from the Government of Maharashtra. In the allegations, Rana had accused the Khar Police of Mumbai of misbehavior after his arrest.

The Independent MP from Amravati was arrested on Saturday along with her MLA-husband Ravi Rana for announcing that they would chant Hanuman Chalisa outside Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s private residence ‘Matoshree’ in Mumbai. The couple, who are now in jail, later withdrew their decision citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Mumbai for an event.

A home ministry official said the home ministry has sought a “factual report” from the Maharashtra government on the allegations of inhuman treatment and arrest of Rana at Mumbai’s Khar police station. The move was taken after the Lok Sabha Privileges and Ethics Committee sought a report from the Maharashtra government from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The MLA couple has been charged with sedition besides promoting controversy and assaulting a public servant to prevent the discharge of duty.

The Lok Sabha MP has demanded strict action against Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Pandey and claimed that the action against her and her husband has been taken on the instructions of the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. However, the police chief posted a video on Twitter responding to the allegations of misbehavior with him.
