Monkeypox: Is a Sexually Transmitted Disease Virus Spread in 19 Countries? Is there any vaccine?

131 cases of monkeypox have been confirmed in 19 countries: WHO

World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that so far in 19 countries Monkeypox 131 new cases have been confirmed and monkeypox is suspected in 106 cases. according to bloombergExperts have said that it is spreading randomly but it can be stopped. Also, according to experts, initially it may have increased due to sexual activities at rave parties in Spain and Belgium. There is no doubt that the world is still recovering from the effects of the corona pandemic, with the onset of another disease threatening many people.

Bloomberg’s Bobby Ghosh did a live Twitter space discussion with Bloomberg Senior Pharma Analyst Sam Fazeli to understand this monkeypox and to find out how much panic it needs to be.

Sam Fazeli said that there are countless viruses in nature. This is one of those. It is an orthopox virus like chickenpox and smallpox. Monkeypox is however less dangerous in terms of mortality than smallpox. This virus seems to be a virus spreading mainly in West Africa. But it is unusual that this virus is being reported in so many countries at the same time. In 2003, there were 71 cases of monkeypox in America. This was not because of a person’s travels, but because of rodents imported from Ghana.

Monkeypox did not come from monkeys

In today’s outbreak, it has to be sequenced to find out. Although it is called monkeypox, it did not actually come from monkeys. It came to the attention of the people when the monkeys got infected with it. ,

The orthopox virus, especially the monkeypox virus, is a generalist. This means that many species can be infected by it. Rats spread it mostly, then it came in monkeys and now in humans. This infection can happen easily. It is believed that coming close to an infected person or the infected fluid in his body can spread the infection.

This infection can also spread by touching a layer touched by an infected person. There are reports that it spreads mostly through close contact, including getting very close and having sex with an infected person.

But I think we need to be careful about the information coming out. Because most of the cases were found in men who had sex with other men, this does not mean that it is a homosexual disease. We are only seeing how this infection spread. It can also be spread through any other close contact such as heterosexual or such action.

There is no specific vaccine for monkeypox, but smallpox or chickenpox vaccine can help in the prevention of monkeypox to some extent.
