A assassin silent on the court. Quietly, he had incredible scoring voracity and also great vision for the game. He played in the shooting guard position and is remembered for being, above all, a great shooter.
Mirza delibasic (Tuzla, January 9, 1954) was a chosen one for basketball. The one who was a Real Madrid player for two seasons (1981-1983) left us just two decades ago: passed away on December 8, 2001 at his home in Sarajevo victim of lymphatic cancer.
He came to Real Madrid, from Bosna Sarajevo, as a refreshment for another legend of the white basket, Juan Antonio Corbalan. Before, the Bosnian had silenced the Madrid crowd, scoring 44 points with Bosna. In the summer of 1981, Madrid announced the signing of the guard, who won the Spanish League and the Intercontinental Cup.
But beyond the titles and numbers, Mirza made it clear that he was ahead of his time and that he was born by and for basketball. A cheerful player on the court and who wasted camaraderie on all four sides.
On the 20th anniversary of his disappearance, the Embassy of Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Centro Sefarad-Israel come together to pay tribute to this enormous basketball figure, with a colloquium and a screening of the documentary Shooting for Mirza that reviews his life and his sporting successes. It will be next Monday, December 13, starting at 7:00 p.m., in a ceremony that will take place at the Centro Sefarad-Israel, in Madrid, with the presence of Corbalán. Undoubtedly a must for lovers of basketball and sports in general.
