Minor raped: Delhi government official and wife in custody

The Deputy Director of the Women and Child Development Department of the Delhi government was taken into custody on Monday for raping a minor girl several times and impregnating her. Officials said that the police have also detained the wife of the accused. The statement of the minor is being recorded. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has ordered the suspension of the accused officer.

Officials said that a police team reached the house of the accused officer in Burari in connection with the investigation of the case. The victim girl was living with the accused and his family since the demise of her father on October 1, 2020. A senior police officer said the accused officer, deputy director in the Women and Child Development Department, allegedly raped the girl several times between November 2020 and January 2021. The officer’s wife has been accused of giving drugs for abortion to the victim, he said. On the allegation against its official, the Delhi government said that if he is found guilty, strict action should be taken against him.
