Mild tremors of earthquake in Karnataka

Mangaluru, June 25 (Agency) Mild tremors were felt in many parts of Sulia taluka of Dakshina Kannada (DK) district in Karnataka on Saturday morning. Official sources gave this information. Several residents of Sulia said that they felt mild tremors of the quake at around 9.10 am. He said that the earth trembled for about 45 seconds and during this time a loud sound was heard. The tremors were also felt by residents of Kallugundi, Sampaje, Goonadka, Aranthodu, Ivaranadu, Thodikkana and Peraje areas of the taluka. There have also been cracks in some houses and buildings in Sulia. Sources said that as soon as the tremors were felt, people ran out of their homes. During this, the furniture in the houses and the items kept in the cupboards fell on the ground. Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner KV Rajendra said in a statement that several people called Sulia to inform that the earth shook for a few seconds and they felt the tremors. He said that confirmation about the earthquake, its intensity and its epicenter is awaited from the State Disaster Management Cell.
