Michael Jackson: producer of “Bohemian Rhapsody” prepare biographical film about the artist

A biographical film about Michael Jackson is being prepared by the Oscar-winning producer of “Bohemian Rhapsody,” Graham Kingand the screenwriter of “Gladiator”, John Logan.

Lionsgate will handle worldwide distribution of the film, the studio’s president said Monday. Joe Drake.

The film will present “an in-depth portrait of the complicated man who became the King of Pop”said the study, and will recreate his “most emblematic presentations while giving an informed view of the musician’s artistic process and his personal life.”

Other producers of the film are John Branca Y John McClainwho are joint executors of the Jackson estate.

Jackson’s brand has been on the upswing of late, including a recently released Broadway musical “MJ: The Musical,” following a series of court triumphs that ended several serious legal crises.

The 2019 HBO documentary “Leaving Neverland” raised new questions about child abuse. The closed lawsuits, which were filed by the two men portrayed in the documentary, were revived by changes in the law. And a decision on an appeal by the heirs of a $700 million tax payment took years. Both accusers’ lawsuits were dismissed, and a ruling in the tax case reduced the amount dramatically.

The two men featured in the documentary will appeal the decision to dismiss their cases. HBO has defended “Leaving Neverland” as valid and an important piece of documentary journalism.

The victory in the prosecution case arose in part because the judge found that Jackson’s image value had been severely affected by those allegations at the time of his death, despite being acquitted at his 2005 child abuse trial.

Under the guidance of Branca and McClain, the estate has posted $2.5 billion in earnings over the past 11 years, and Jackson has remained the highest-earning deceased celebrity each year since his 2009 death at age 50 from an overdose. lethal effect of the anesthetic propofol.

No further information about the film, including the director or cast, was revealed, but the names behind the project suggest it has its eye on its award potential. Logan and Graham previously collaborated on “The Aviator” which earned them each Oscar nominations.

“I first met the Jackson family in 1981 and I am honored to bring their legacy to the big screen”King said in a statement. “Sitting in Dodger Stadium watching the (Jacksons’) Victory tour, I never would have imagined that 38 years later I would have the privilege of being a part of this movie.”

Jackson’s mother, Catherine Jacksonalso said in a statement that “Ever since Michael was a little boy when he was a member of The Jackson 5, he loved the magic of movies…as a family we are honored to have our life story brought to life on the big screen.”
