President Andrés Manuel López Obrador assured that Mexico will not be affected by the blockade of Russian oil by the United States and the United Kingdom.
Questioned about this issue during the morning press conference, the president recalled that Mexico will use the surpluses that the country receives from the oil sales to continue subsidizing the gasoline priceso they will not go up in price.
“No, it will not affect us, because as we mentioned in the balance we have a positive balance. In the balance between what increases the price of crude oil, with the increase in the price of gasoline. We have been investing in exploration since the beginning of the government, and we are investing in the drilling of oil wells. We are lucky to discover oil fields with a lot of potential; However, we are not going to exceed 2 million barrels of extraction per day because we want to take care of this resource,” AMLO said this Wednesday from the National Palace.
This Tuesday, US President Joe Biden announced a ban on imports of Russian oil and gas to the United States. A sanction that the United Kingdom later joined.
“This means that Russian oil will no longer be accepted in US ports,” he told a news conference.
The president pointed out that the veto was consulted with the European allies of the US although, he stressed, many of them will not join the ban against the energetic Russians.
Biden acknowledged that this measure will affect the pockets of Americans, because gas prices will rise even more. “I’m going to do everything I can to minimize it,” she declared.
‘We want peace’
Regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, President López Obrador reaffirmed that Mexico’s position is the non-intervention and asked to seek a peaceful solution, “we do not want war, we will always fight for peace.”
He stressed that Mexicans in Ukraine are being helped to return to the country and that another Air Force plane is leaving today to also bring Latin Americans.
