Mexican doctor was transferred to southern Gaza: MSF denounces humanitarian crisis

Barbara Langoa Mexican doctor who has lived in the Gaza Strip since 2022, is trapped, along with her husband, in the war zone and seeks to leave through the Rafah border towards Egypt.

Alicia Bárcena, Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs, asked Israel to allow the doctor, a specialist in anesthesiology, to leave the area, which has been bombed by Israel. “I have contacted UNRWA UN refugee office in Gaza to support Barbara Lango. We are trying to get her to leave through Egypt but Israel does not authorize a humanitarian cordon or allow anyone to leave,” she noted in her X account.

This is what MSF has said about the Mexican doctor and the humanitarian situation in Gaza

MSF confirms that its international teams, made up of around twenty people based in the north of Gaza, were transferred to the south of the Strip.

The Mexican doctor Barbara Dariela Langowho in the past worked for MSF for a year and currently no longer worked for the organization, It was also moved to the south. As soon as we have adequate conditions, we will continue with the evacuation of personnel.

Since the beginning of the crisis, MSF has made a psychological support team available to staff and will continue to adapt its response based on needs.

Our teams are witnesses that Drinking water is increasingly scarce in the southern Gaza Strip and the difficulty in obtaining it increases the anguish of the population. We urgently ask that sufficient and immediate access to drinking water be restored for population of the Gaza Strip.

A humanitarian corridor of a few hours decreed today by the Israeli authorities in northern Gaza has just expired. We are extremely concerned about the fate of those who will not be able to travel, such as the wounded, the sick and medical personnel, who we fear will be annihilated in light of the statements of the Israeli military authorities. MSF calls for safe zones to be maintained in the north and regular ceasefires to be established.

We also ask for the possibility of fleeing through the crossing Rafah, towards Egypt, for those who so wish, without prejudice to the right to return. MSF has asked that Palestinian staff wishing to leave be evacuated.

Evacuation order in Gaza is a death sentence: WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) condemned the orders that Israel has given in the Gaza Strip, which is under Israeli siege, and by which the entire population has been forced to travel from the north to the south of Gaza.

This is because Israel has also insisted on the evacuation of 22 hospitals that care for 2,000 hospitalized patients in the north.

“The lives of many frail and critically ill patients are at stake: those in intensive care or dependent on life support; patients undergoing hemodialysis; newborns in incubators; “Women with pregnancy complications and others face imminent deterioration in their condition or death if they are forced to move and are deprived of life-saving medical care while they are evacuated,” he said in a statement this Saturday.

This entire movement is equivalent to a death sentence, the WHO reiterated.

All UN humanitarian organizations have asked Israel to cancel its order to completely evacuate northern Gaza in the next few hours “to avoid transforming what is already a tragedy into a calamitous situation.”

Like the rest of the Gazan population, all UN personnel are affected by this ultimatum, as well as the 440,000 displaced people who have sought refuge in the schools and other facilities that the organization managed in that Palestinian territory.

The UN so far estimates that 23 humanitarian workers have died in Israeli attacks on Gaza. Eleven were health personnel and twelve employees of the United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA).
